HOSPITALITY · COMMERCIAL
Rare Studio, commissioned by florist and interior designer Menno Kroon, has created the lighting design for one of the spaces at Estate Cothen. The estate, nestled among orchards, serves as a stylish backdrop for a wide range of events - from art exhibitions and product launches to weddings, dinners, and parties.
A space with so many facets called for a lighting design that is equally versatile, timeless in appearance, functional in use, and with a keen sense of style.
Comfortable light is key.
It is barely noticeable when the spots and downlights are switched on. Only the object or surface they illuminate catches the eye.
The lighting design for Menno Kroon’s renewed showroom is all about subtlety, flexibility, and style.
The key principle in the design was that the luminaires themselves should not draw the attention. The focus in the space is on what is being illuminated. Lighting comfort was therefore of great importance - lighting that glares distracts and irritates.
General Lighting
For the general lighting, low-glare spots and downlights were chosen, mounted on a magnetic track system. The light is flexible and comfortable, you hardly notice they are switched on.
Indirect Lighting
Behind the steel ceiling structure, a fully programmable RGBW system provides indirect light that gives a warm glow over the aged barn wood. The rough texture of the ceiling and the seven-metre height are beautifully accentuated as a result.
Various colour gradations with smooth transitions, designed and pre-programmed, bring the space to life at the touch of a button whenever desired. From warm and intimate light to vibrant, atmospheric hues.
Statement Pieces
Where in the two main rooms the lighting effect matters more than the luminaire itself, the choice for a statement piece was a conscious one. They finish the space and can be fully adjusted in colour.
In the dark hallway, alabaster wall lights and low-glare downlights create a warm and intimate atmosphere.

Thanks to the programmable scenes and magnetic lighting, the showroom effortlessly transforms from a space under construction to an exhibition, dinner or event venue. And back again.
The result is a considered lighting design that brings together functionality, atmosphere and style.
